“Jane, get me off this crazy thing!”
I can’t even pay attention to what is happening in the world today. The hypocrisy and idiocy running rampant is entirely too much.
I’m astounded that so many in this country are so willing to just throw our children under the bus.
Throw our high-risk and elderly people under the bus as well.
Why?
Selfishness.
Greed.
Money.
The economy.
Is it worth the risk that our unvaccinated children are paying? Is it worth those children taking Covid home and killing their parents and grandparents?
This all feels so surreal to me. This is not an “all for one and one for all” mentality, it’s an “all about me and fuck anyone and everyone else (including my kids and relatives)” mentality.
Families have been pitted against each other. Friends have been pitted against each other. Both sides claiming to have proof and evidence that their side is the correct side.
Viruses don’t give one shit about politics. They will infect whoever they come upon. They aren’t going to check first to see if you are a democrat, republican, mask or anti-mask, vax or anti-vax. They are just going to infect your dumb ass. I find it incredulous that there are still Covid doubters out there. How? 682,646 lives of American Citizens have been lost to Covid. (CDC, 2021).
Oh yes, I know, the numbers are “drastically inflated,” and they are counting people who died of other illnesses. Covid is much like AIDS. Had they not had Covid or AIDS, the underlying condition would not have killed them. Or, the fact that Covid causes such incredible respiratory distress and stress to primary organs. Please do your research. By research, I do not mean go look at posts and reposts on Facebook. I mean go to the CDC and WHO websites! These are the legitimate sources of information and research. Unless you have spent years in medical school, and have thoroughly researched these things, how can you even pretend to know better than scientists and doctors? I’m floored at how many people who don’t even have a college education know more than the scientists and doctors. I trust those scientists and doctors. I trust the CDC and the WHO. The people within those organizations are specialists and went to college (8+ years!) to study viruses and outbreaks. How could they not know what they are talking about? How can we not take their recommendations seriously?
The Pfizer Covid vaccine has FDA approval now! Did you get your childhood vaccinations for polio, measles, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus, chickenpox, pneumonia, etc… do you get the flu shot? All of these vaccinations are mandated for school-age children. There is a good reason.
Please, come up with a valid and logical reason that it is worse for children to wear masks in school than it is for them to get Covid. Do we know enough about long-term effects for those who had even mild or asymptomatic cases??? Are you sure enough that it’s not a big deal for your child to be exposed? Children’s hospitalization rates are way up, as are child deaths due to covid. As a parent, are you really willing to take that gamble so that your child doesn’t get acne, or can see facial expressions in full?
Pandemic issues are more than enough to deal with. But, almost parallel to the Covid pandemic are issues of continued police brutality and racism. Systematic racism has been more outed, and more people have become a lot more aware of things going on with our brothers and sisters in a country founded upon white male privilege.
As of the inauguration of the 45th president, whose morals and ethics were modeled as OK to our country, more white males and females started showing their true colors because they felt empowered by the leadership. They felt it was just fine to come right out of the racism closet. Of course, this is all speculation on my part, but I would imagine that a large number of people, aside from some white males (and some white females) would tend to agree.
With the pandemic issue and mask issue at my children’s school (they decided to go back completely normal, masks optional (which was actually due to Iowa passing a mask mandate ban, thank you CovidKim), no social distancing, no small class sizes, water fountains turned back on, all classes eating lunch back in the cafeteria, and adults allowed back into the building and classrooms as was usual before the pandemic — I have emailed the school board and superintendent on a couple of occasions with my concern over the health and safety of our vulnerable children who aren’t yet able to be vaccinated. Unfortunately, our district is a more well-to-do (read more Republicans because that’s how it pans out), and pretty much most of the parents and community are anti-mask, and anti-vax…
To tie up nicely with the above information, this came out in the news today…
North Scott school board candidate walks back controversial comments
This comes after words Nick Hansel said during a campaign speech that has since gained social media attention alleging…www.wqad.com
I’d like to say that I was surprised.
I’m embarrassed by my school district.
Sadly, in some ways, I feel like his statement may actually aid in his election to the school board…
If it weren’t for the fact that my kids have gone there since 2014, and do NOT transition well, and are all (save one) on IEPs, I would be pulling them from the district, and likely moving to a less ignorant state (IL — right across the river!).
I’m just so exhausted from it all. I’m so exhausted by the selfishness of others. The pandemic is probably going to go on and on way much longer than it should have since politics entered into the equation.
What happened to justice and equality? What happened to neighbors looking out for and caring about each other. What happened to people giving a shit about the health and safety of everyone within their community, everyone within the USA???
There is absolutely racism and classism caught up within the pandemic. The unfortunate thing is that this has been so much worse for those of color, and those of the lower (even middle) classes. Those people can’t afford the testing, the treatments, and the discrimination they face when trying to seek care.
I’m appalled at the behavior of Americans.
I really hope we can all try to pull our shit together and work as a fucking team!!!!
