I have several other posts in the works. Yes, the fart one I promised a long time ago is still in the works. I had also started at least one 2022 Year in Review post, but it was all just going too bleak. I actually chunked 80% of it out into a “save for later because this is an entire piece on its own” file. Can I just say that the end of 2022 was such a complete and total shit show that I want to forget its existence and move on? Why certainly! Good.
I’m not going to lie - 2023 started off in proper shit show form. But, I’m also going to ignore all of that and focus on the things that I’m kicking ass at, or that are going well!
My attitude is going pretty damn good right about now!
I did a lot of panicking towards the end of December. BUT - I finally finished writing my sections of the local beer book that I’ve been working on, co-writing with another local author, for the past year and a half. I’m *almost* in celebration mode. I still have to go through and edit the shit out of the whole thing. But, once I finished the initial writing of the last of my assigned sections - a huge weight lifted, and I felt really good!
The co-writing of this book was a huge learning experience in so many ways. I could write a whole lot about that experience, but I’m just going to save that for another time and focus on the growth aspect. Now, I know that I can absolutely put a whole book together and publish it. So, look forward to what I do this year!! I’m determined to publish at least two more books this year.
Throughout the past year - the things that came together for me were all in the form of friendships. Those are the things that are at the forefront of this year! My Sunday Bloody Mary Sunday group has grown, and these are my people. I look forward to every Sunday that I get to spend with them at Wake Brewing, drinking some of the best brews in the area.
I also joined the Quad Cities Beer Club this past summer. These are also my people. It is such a great and fun group! I look forward to the monthly meetups throughout this year! We do monthly meetups at the local breweries, taprooms, and bottle rooms. Our December meetup was at Endless Brews, a taproom that carries a variety of local and Iowa brews.
Between the QCBC, friend meetups, and visiting all the breweries in the area for the book, I’ve really met a lot of amazing and wonderful people. I plan on continuing to visit most of these breweries throughout this coming year! I spent the last few months of 2022 visiting and revisiting the breweries that I was doing the write-ups for. It’s one thing to sit in the brewery, drink beer, and interview the owners and/or brewers when they aren’t open (which was the case for most of the interviews we did), and it’s another thing to go sit at the bar while they are open and soak in the atmosphere.
I will definitely be drinking more craft beer throughout 2023!
Cheers bitches!!
